My Experience at Language Coaching Academy

December 24, 2024 by Leave your thoughts

During the pandemic I started doing LIVEs on my channels on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook. It became clear to me that questions arose each time from different people about similar issues. Note that I say “similar” and not “the same”. Why is that?

Well, the clear answer to me was that all of us have our own individual needs and set of circumstances. This is why I started running groups and individual sessions for Language Learning Therapy too. This was something I had not seen being done before.

Language Coaching

When I thought about Language Coaching, which I had heard Luca Lampariello talk about before, I as intrigued to learn better the difference between what I was doing, what I knew of the work Luca was doing and the course Anna Bakova was involved in as someone who worked in coaching against the International Coaching Federation standards.

So I signed up for Anna’s course and it has taken my teaching approach to a fresh level. I managed to figure out the difference between things I had seen Luca doing as a mix between coaching and language technician work. Then there was what I was doing, which was definitely had elements of therapy, alongside coaching and language technician work.

The two-month Language Coaching & Innovations course at Anna Bakova’s Language Coaching Academy helped me to figure out which was which and gave me tools that helped me leverage the techniques recognised and prescribed by the International Coaching Federation standards.

I went in confident about my methods. It was good to confirm that some of my approaches worked well. At the same time, I picked up new coaching ideas to guide learners and help them handle the blockages that slow progress. The practical sessions and assignments made the techniques stick in my mind.

Outcomes from Language Coaching training

Getting an International certification in Professional Language Coaching is something I can point to now to show that I not only studied but also demonstrate knowledge of the techniques taught on the course. Whilst knowledge of certain techniques is possible without such qualifications, it is definitely something more concrete to point to for others to understand what you do. It also gave me confidence to know that what I was doing was definitely aligned with the International Coaching Federation standards after I successfully completed my studies.

There was a large number of experienced educators with a variety of backgrounds both on the course with me, and giving sessions to enhance the course. These voices of experiences really enhanced the knowledge I gained.

The course blends coaching methodologies and communication skills, leading to faster client progress. I noticed this in practice when I completed sessions with people for my assessments. I came out of the sessions feeling fulfilled in what I had managed to help my clients achieve. The positive feedback from the clients, other students and instructors was also rewarding and helpful to hear.

I can now see why learners can achieve language goals much faster with these personalised strategies in place from the coaching sessions.

Of course, as a graduates of this course, you can add that something extra to your portfolio and skillset to command a higher rate in recognition for the work you have put in to acquire knowledge to more effectively run sessions with your clients.
